It is the policy of the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (ADOT&PF), owner and operator of the Fairbanks International Airport (FAI), that no qualified individual with a disability shall, solely on the basis of his or her disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any of its programs, services, or activities as provided by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA).

Our mission is to provide a safe, enjoyable travel experience as well as equal access for guests and passengers with disabilities and/or special needs at FAI.

Notice under the Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (“ADA”) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the FAI will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities. This duty of non-discrimination applies to all applicants, participants, beneficiaries, employees and other interested persons.

Employment: FAI does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.

Effective Communication: FAI will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in FAI’s programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures: FAI will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in FAI offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity of FAI, should contact the office of Ashley Jaramillo, ADA Coordinator, by phone at (907) 474-2598 or by email at fai.ada@alaska.gov. In order to assist staff in making the appropriate arrangements for your accommodation, please make your request as far in advance of the scheduled event.

The ADA does not require FAI to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden. Complaints that a program, service, or activity of FAI is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to Ashley Jaramillo, ADA Coordinator, by phone at (907) 474-2598 or by email at fai.ada@alaska.gov.

FAI will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that re open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.

 

Filing a Grievance

It is the policy of FAI not to discriminate on the basis of disability. FAI has adopted an internal grievance procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. 794), Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (28 CFR 35) and the Air Carrier Access Act (14 CFR 382).

Unlawful Discrimination

It is unlawful for airport operators and their lessees, tenants, concessionaires and contractors to discriminate against any person because of race, color, national origin, sex, creed, or disability in public services and employment opportunities. Allegations of discrimination should be promptly reported to the Airport Manager or:
